Smudge Brushing: Sweet Senescence

I'm dedicating this to my Mom.

I've worked on it for weeks and it's still not done. I hand smudge brushed every single stroke. Posted by Picasa

Mary I love to see some which are favourites on BP also on here because of being able to view it bigger and in good quality. I think you must upload bigger files than I have been doing. They were taking so long I make them smaller now.
This really shows up all the hard work and rapidly acquired smudge brushing skills you have mastered.
It is a wonderful as a dedication to your Mum.

Thanks so much, Kate!!! I did do a lot of work on this--almost all of it in the car while driving. It is very time consuming but also rewarding.

It's not really hard. Just a lot of work.

And you have to choose the right photo to begin with, I guess. The quality of the orginal photo doesn't have to be that great as long as the compostion is good, because you can change everything about it while smudging.

One problem I have is that there's never an original--only a print, so it is not like oil or water painting in that respect.

No I'm just being argumentative. I mean the very first time that you print out what you smudge.

AH, yes. You'd have to number them. Or make some subtle change with every print.
