BUNDLED UP on Ellis Island

When we were leaving Ellis Island a boat load of people arrived and it made think of what it would have been like for the original immigrants when they arrived. I am sure they would not have had that covered walkway! I liked the fact you could see the Statue of Liberty in the distance too.

Yes we got a tour bus but not a yellow one. Can't even recall a yellow one! I forget the name but it was a well known one. You can book it for 2 days. I would say it is worth it to get the info from the tour guides. Some are much better than others. They just drop you off at bus stops near to attractions and then you can return or walk to another attraction before getting back on. We did get the tour bus to a drop off point and walked to the ferry for Ellis Island. Well worth having a tour there if you are interested in the history of immigrants but with only two days that would be a good half day taken up.
Two things not to miss are Grand Central Station and the Cast Iron District (in my opinion)
It is also dead easy to get around on the metro with an all day ticket. Probably cheaper and quicker than a tour bus especially if you are visiting during the week.
Have fun!
